I’ve only had a Savage for three days, so I’ll leave comments about the bike itself to those who have more riding time. One thing I can tell you is that the bike is fun and easy to ride. Yes, the light weight is noticable when meeting 18-wheelers on a two-lane. You can read my first impressions in a reply to “Intrudn”’s challenge to describe our rides.
The other side of the coin from experience is theory. Last night I was talking to an old friend, an old oilfield mechanic, and I mentioned I had bought a new bike. When I told him about my thumper, he commented that this was the best method to increase torque in an engine this size, a single cylinder with long stroke. That long stroke is also what keeps it from reving too high. He also mentioned that along with the simplicity of a one-cylinder engine comes the responsibility of keeping it running in top conditions; if one piston quits, that’s all she wrote.
Good luck!
